WITH THE CHILLY WINTER (STILL) ON THE WAY...
Being subjected to drastic temperature changes -
from the cosy and warm indoor atmosphere to the wet and cold weather conditions outside - people are usually more prone to
colds and flu during the winter months! The two 'security systems' in your
body to protect you from illness or to help you recover
from it are your immune and lymphatic system.
Drs. Lisbeth & Norbert Rössel
DIRECTORS
The LYMPHATIC SYSTEM describes the vessels,
organs and structures, which are responsible for
the drainage of lymph-active substances and involved in
carrying out some of the immune responses of the body.
Different kinds of white blood cells (phagocytes, lymphycytes, etc.),
which are mainly produced in our lymph nodes and bone marrow, engulf and destroy foreign particles or
invaders like bacteria and viruses and are thereby defending our bodies from disease.
Working as a filter (lymph
nodes) and removal system (lymph vessels), the lymph system is then responsible for the elimination of
micro-organisms, dead cells, toxins and metabolic wastes (waste is created with the functioning
of each cell and needs to be removed or the body will become too toxic).
Unlike the blood supply (which is 'pumped' throughout the body by means of the rhythmic contractions of the heart),
the movement of lymphatic fluid along the lymph capillaries and vessels is facilitated by the skeletal muscles ('muscle
pump') and by respiratory movement.
Think of the lymph system being similar to pipes that carry waste in a house. Over time, the build-up on the inside
of the pipe walls might start to clog the system. The same happens in the lymph system, as toxic mucous and waste build
up and may hinder its function.
A FAILING LYMPH SYSTEM WILL THEREFORE NOT ONLY AFFECT OUR IMMUNE RESPONSE,
BUT ALSO OUR ABILITY TO ELIMINATE TOXIC SUBSTANCES FROM OUR BODY!
In order to function properly, the lymphatic system relies on regular physical
activity,
strong connective
tissue and an adequate flushing agent,
for example:
good clean water, herbal teas, vegetable juices.
Please ensure sufficient (about 2.5 litres) liquid intake per day. (In winter, it is better to drink warm
beverages).
Failing one of these pre-requisites may result in an insufficient lymphatic
drainage. An adequate liquid intake can be achieved by everybody. Often people do not
feel thirsty, but once they start increasing their liquid intake they will develop a natural feeling of thirst again.
Keep in mind that
coffee, regular tea and alcohol have dehydrating effects on the body
and should therefore be reduced accordingly and always be accompanied by a glass of water etc.
The lymphatic drainage will be impaired in people
with weak (or very weak) connective tissue -
even if the person is sporting. In cases like that and to promote the
detoxification processes in the body, the
lymph system can also be stimulated by
'manual lymph drainage',
which is a very slow and ever so gentle compression massage in the direction of the natural lymph flow
within the body - with the benefits of relaxation and stress release.
Lymph cleansing may help to stimulate the liver, pancreas, thyroid, improve digestion,
cleanse kidneys and joints, increase immunity and therefore help the body to fight diseases.
Whilst enjoying a beautiful Ginger and Cinnamon Cocoon Body Wrap or a
gentle lymph drainage massage with the Slide Styler® or
the Vacustyler® you would inhale Ionized Oxygen, which may help to
clear headaches, upper respiratory congestion (sinusitis, nasal
congestion), lower respiratory congestion (bronchitis,
etc.) and revitalize the body.
A fabulous (and very relaxing!) treatment for sinusitis,
nasal congestion and puffy eyes is our Suction Pump Massage®, which is included in all of
our facial treatments, but also available as a treatment on its own.
We also have assembled packages to facilitate proper lymph drainage and detoxification and
to activate vitality and immune response.
